Anatomy lesson
I finally got into see an orthopedist last week, after seeing the urgent care doc, who simply threw some steroids at me.
This doc didn't seem terribly concerned, told me to keep doing what I'm doing, and gave me some nice elbow pads, which seem to help. I'll go see him again later to make sure things aren't getting worse.
The most useful thing to me was studying the anatomy charts of the wrist and arm. I didn't realize just how close to the surface some of the important bits of your arm really are. The nerve for the outer half of your hand, the main artery for your hand, and a big tendon, all run right under your skin, right where you set your wrist down when you type. That same nerve runs on the back or side of your elbow, more or less.
Slouching and resting your arms on the edge of a desk are bad, it seems.

Sounds like a good plan for now. --Madeline (2008.10.30) |
