<Thursday, August 6th, 2009> [Amy] Fighting like Susan (and Donna, and Mom...) I came back from my morning run to an email from Twin Six. I followed the link to their homepage and my heart sank when I saw a black screen with just the word "Win" in pink, a single teardrop hanging from the "n". I clicked the word, which took me (as I knew it would) to Fat Cyclist. I hadn't read this hilarious and moving blog since my mom's breast cancer diagnosis. Fatty's wife, Susan, passed last night after a long battle with cancer. "Don't say she lost", his post begins. Her story was heart-rending before, but now it's personal. "Fight like Susan", Fatty concludes. Oh, it's on. This afternoon I registered for the 26.2 With Donna: The National Breast Cancer Marathon. It's Sunday, February 21st in Jacksonville Beach. Sponsored by the Mayo Clinic (where my mom is being treated), it's named for Donna Deegan, a local newscaster and three-time breast cancer survivor. All proceeds go to breast cancer research and to women living with breast cancer. Win. | .:.
