Sightings
This place is never boring. Probably not sane, but never boring. I'm guessing it's been done, but it seems like an interesting application would be a map of "weird crap I saw people doing today". Photos would be ideal, but even text would be interesting. The two important elements would be the map, and a community vote on weirdness.
A couple of entries for the site, neither of which I got pictures of, unfortunately...
Some time ago, I was downtown on a Sunday morning. I have no idea why. It was mostly deserted, but then an odd fellow walked by. He was a twenty something Hasidic Jew, complete with the big black hat and uncut hair by his ears. What was unusual was that under his jacket he was in surgical scrubs. That's a pretty strange combo to start with. Then I noticed he was carrying ... a trombone.
This morning on the way to work I found myself walking behind a nice looking fellow. Nice looking black wool coat. Good shoes. I noticed something sticking up above his shoulder. At first I thought it was a tube for plans, or something innocuous. No, it was the handle of a Katana. A ninja sword. The handle was sticking out of the top of a nice, custom made nylon case. A hi-tech Katana? I stopped to watch him go into his building, walk right past security, and badge himself into the elevator.
.:.
Security never even saw him. He's a ninja. *cue the shakuhachi* --amy (2010.03.11) |

I like the idea of a sightings map, especially for a place like New York. --David (2010.03.15) |
They've already got the sightings map. You can see it in the movie "Men in Black". There are 2 techs taking care of it. I don't know how to spell the first guy's name, but the other guy's name is Bob. --Marvin (2010.03.16) |
Of course it was a trombone. --Janice (2010.04.26) |
